The Beatles Vinyl Cover

Project Summary

I needed to create a vinyl cover, back and inner sleeve for an illustration project. I chose the white album for this project because it was a blank canvas that I could create from scratch.

Project Description

• Name the 2 .ai and 2 .png files lastname-project-4
• You must create vector art for the album
• You may include some photos, but they must be a minor aspect of the design
• You are not allowed to use the live trace.
• Design a 12” Jacket front and back
• Design an inner sleeve
• 4 sides total
• All 4 sides must have an obvious theme throughout
• Include the Track Listing With song length on the Jacket back cover, clearly indicate Side 1 and Side 2
• Include the Band/Musician name and Album name on the Jacket Front cover or Back cover
• The Lyrics could be one song set to imagery, or all the albums’ lyrics set to imagery
• Include the usual band, and musician information found on an album like who did vocals, drums, bass, guitar etc…..
• Include other credits like producer, record label, recording studio, copyright year, bar code, etc…..

Research

First, I listened to the complete album and wrote down some elements from some of the songs that I thought would add great visuals to my design. Then, I sketched all the elements to place them then I did black and white drawing and added a lot of texture with the shading to add texture. I kept it black and white because I thought it tied it to the original design of the vinyl. For the text, I tried to find the typeface that looked the most similar to the original logo which is Galvji. I also reused some of the drawings from the front cover for the back and the inner sleeve so that the whole design as visual balance and everything fits together.
